Online Courses
UNC Online
Courses are offered through the Language Exchanges of UNC Online. You can find many less commonly taught languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Ancient Greek, Hindi/Urdu, Latin, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, etc and upper division or summer offerings in many of the common languages. Interested students should contact John Stevens, the campus coordinator of online language offerings prior to enrolling, since not all courses found there will automatically transfer correctly to satisfy foreign language requirements (for languages ECU does not offer, courses 1001-2004 would need to transfer in as FLGC “Foreign Language General Credit”), and courses above 2004 level equivalence may not have ECU equivalents.
Students should be aware that there is no guarantee that all courses found there will be offered from level 1001 or in a timely fashion needed for graduation, or that courses will use the same textbooks or articulate completely with ECU courses, since they are offered by other universities. (That is, there may be a completely different textbook to buy and different expectations of prior material covered, so it is not recommended to go in and out of ECU course sequences using courses from other universities). You should be able to register for courses through UNC Online and have the hours billed as part of your regular campus bill. No additional application for admission to the host campus is necessary.
