Juan Escourido specializes in premodern Hispanic cultures, Digital Humanities, and Media Studies. He has published on Alfonso X, Juan Ruiz, cancionero poetry, Early Modern manuscripts, media ecologies, the history of emotions, Game Studies, and Internet Studies. His current research focuses on wisdom literature, Galician-Portuguese cantigas d’amigo, and big data approaches to medieval textual corpora. His latest article explores freestyle rap through the lens of 12th- to 14th-century literary theory, tracing connections between pre- and post-print oral traditions. Before turning to manuscript and digital cultures, he worked on 20th-century thought and literature, a line of inquiry that culminated in his first book, Periféricos: Antonio Trujillo, Juan Larrea y Enrique Dussel.
