Undergraduate Researchers Represent FLL at RCAW

East Carolina University proudly celebrated outstanding undergraduate student research at this year’s Research and Creative Achievement Week (RCAW), a campus-wide showcase highlighting innovative student projects across diverse disciplines.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Laura Levi Altstaedter, seniors Mikaela Trank, Emma Saddison, and Kaylie Williams presented compelling research posters. Their projects explored digital mapping and interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Emma, a Biology major, and Kaylie, majoring in Community and Regional Planning with a Geographic Information Science Certificate, emphasized the value of integrating digital humanities with biological insights. Both students will further their studies by participating in Dr. Altstaedter’s study abroad program in Buenos Aires this summer, following Mikaela, who took part in the program last year.

Senior Lexi Karaivanova, a Russian Studies minor mentored by Dr. Justin Wilmes, presented her research analyzing the portrayal of Western rock music in Perestroika and post-Soviet films. Lexi’s project provided insightful perspectives on how cinema revealed the political impact of youth movements during a transformative historical period.

Congratulations to Mikaela, Emma, Kaylie, and Lexi for their impressive contributions and dedication to advancing scholarly knowledge!
