What is Spanish Cultural Immersion?

Spanish Cultural Immersion activities, events or sessions allow you to immerse yourself in Spanish culture! Examples of activities include the Hispanic Film Series, Tardes de Juego y Para Charlar, The Mixxer (online language exchange), the FLL Research Symposium, events listed on this webpage, and other activities listed on Canvas.

Why do I need to attend?

Five percent (5%) of your final grade for your SPAN 1001 through 2004 course must therefore be earned by participating in and reflecting on Hispanic culture. You will log a minimum of four hours of Spanish-related activities outside of class and record your reflections on Canvas. If you are unsure what to do, talk to your instructor.

How do I log my attendance?

Log your attendance by filling out the Spanish Cultural Immersion Activities Log. The log can be found on your Canvas course page, or you can download the log by clicking on the download icon above. The form must be printed and filled out in ink. Submit completed Activities Log + Reflection on Canvas no later than MON., NOV. 22.

Unlock Your potential through Spanish conversation and games!

Join our group Spanish immersion sessions, led by experienced Learning Assistants who have excelled in SPAN 1001 through 2004. These sessions are available both in-person and online, covering Spanish course levels from 1001 to 2004.

Enhance your learning by booking small group conversation sessions or large group game sessions. These sessions qualify for Spanish Cultural Immersion points in SPAN 1001-2004 courses.

Please note: These hours are not for tutoring. They are dedicated to learning about the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking countries. For tutoring, book your time at ECU’s PASC.

This program is specifically for classes SPAN 1001 through SPAN 2004.

Attendance Guidelines

When attending these activities, events or sessions, please follow these guidelines:

Be punctual: Arrive on time.
Engage actively: Participate in the activities.
Avoid disruptions: Refrain from using your cell phone or causing any distractions during the session.
Validate your hours: To validate your hours, students must have their Spanish Cultural Immersion Activities Log signed by the designated person(s) listed on the event post.
