FLL Faculty Recognized for Excellence in Teaching
This year two of our faculty members, Dr. Laura Levi Alstaedter and Dr. Larkin Murphy were recognized by the North Carolina Board of Governors for their excellence in teaching!
The North Carolina Board of Governors has named Dr. Laura Levi Altstaedter (left) as one of the 17 recipients across the UNC system for the 2025 Awards for Excellence in Teaching. These prestigious awards recognize outstanding educators from each of North Carolina’s 16 public universities.
Award recipients are nominated by institutional committees and selected by the Board of Governors Committee on Educational Policies and Programs.
This well-deserved recognition reflects Dr. Altstadter’s deep commitment to ECU’s motto, Servire, and to the universities mission. She exemplifies teaching excellence through her work in the classroom, mentorship in undergraduate research and leadership of the department’s study abroad program in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award has been awarded Dr. Larkin Murphy (picture right), recognizing his outstanding teaching and dedication to student success.
This prestigious honor is given to full-time faculty at East Carolina University who have taught for three or more years and consistently demonstrate excellence in instruction and a deep commitment to student learning.
Dr. Murphy’s impact is evident in his classroom presence, his continued mentorship beyond office offices, demonstrated through his involvement with the FLL Student Council of Ambassadors, French Club, and the La Rochelle study abroad program.
