Hispanic Studies or Hispanic Studies Education

With Foreign Languages and Literatures, you can immerse yourself in the languages and civilizations of Spain and the Americas through our Hispanic Studies program.

When you study Hispanic languages and cultures, you’ll join a community of over 400 million Spanish speakers worldwide. You’ll develop your language skills for effective and cohesive communication in Spanish, gain an interdisciplinary understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures and their histories, and learn to critically interpret texts and objects from these cultures. Plus, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with community partners to improve the lives of Latinos in Eastern North Carolina and beyond.

Our Educator Preparation program equips you with the linguistic proficiency, cultural sensitivity, and pedagogical knowledge needed to effectively teach in K-12 classrooms.

We also offer a Graduate Certificate in Hispanic Studies and graduate courses for the MA in International Studies. You’ll explore the literature and history of Hispanic culture from the Middle Ages to the modern world. As a Hispanic Studies major, you’ll be eligible for a wide variety of excellent professional internships.

Join us at Foreign Languages and Literatures and see how mastering Hispanic languages and cultures can transform your future!
