Alumna in Paris: Amanda Curran (2019)

Amanda Curran graduated in 2019 with a dual BA and BS degree that included triple majors in political science, communication, and foreign languages and literature with a concentration in French. She worked at a French high school in Versailles for the TAPIF program.  She was accepted at the Sorbonne’s MA program in English and Anglophone Studies, thanks to her C1 (advanced low) level of French on the CEFR scale. She credits her French instructors for her success.

“When I started college at ECU, I had a language requirement for my major and had always dreamed of being bilingual, so I took my first French class ever in 2016. At the time, I didn’t realize that it was possible to make so much progress in a language in such a short period of time, but ECU provided me with a strong enough foundation to be able to effectively communicate in the language. I was able to study abroad in France twice and receive ECU scholarships in order to do so on two different programs which really helped me with solidifying my language skills. Now since I am living in France and am now using the language every day for my studies and to communicate with friends and colleagues, French has become an integral part of my everyday life. I am truly living my dream by being able to get a master’s degree in France and set myself up for a Career path and life in a foreign setting.”
